Best Hair Textures for the Nigerian Market in 2025
We shipped to over 180 Nigerian clients in 2024. Here's what they ordered — and what they reordered — versus what sat in their inventory longer than expected. If you're stocking for Lagos or any major Nigerian city, this data matters.
What's Selling: Body Wave Leads
Body wave overtook bone straight as our top-selling texture to Nigeria in Q3 2024 and hasn't looked back. The movement and volume of body wave suits Nigerian clients' preference for hair that looks full and lively without requiring constant manipulation.
Deep wave and deep curly have also surged, particularly in the 14–18 inch range for clients who want a natural curl pattern that blends with chemically treated or texturized natural hair. In our Lagos client base, deep wave reorders are 60% of total volume.
What's Slowing: Bone Straight
Bone straight had a long run as the prestige texture for Nigerian clients — particularly for special occasions and corporate settings. It's not disappearing, but the premium it used to command has compressed as supply has become commoditized.
Clients who bought bone straight three years ago are increasingly moving to natural straight (which has a slight natural movement) or to body wave. If you're heavily stocked in bone straight, expect slightly longer inventory cycles than 2022–2023.
Length Preferences
18–22 inches is the sweet spot for everyday installs. 24–28 inch orders have increased for special occasions and social media content creators. Very few Nigerian clients in our data are ordering above 30 inches for regular stock — reserve long lengths for special order.
Short lengths (10–14 inch) are moving well for specific styles (bob installs, overlay installs) — don't overlook this segment if you're serving a salon with a diverse clientele.
Practical Stocking Recommendation
For a Lagos distributor with $5,000–10,000 in hair inventory budget: put 40% in body wave (16–22 inch double-drawn), 25% in deep wave or deep curly (14–20 inch), 20% in natural straight (18–24 inch), and 15% in bone straight (18–22 inch) for clients who specifically request it.
Avoid overstocking any single texture above 40% of your inventory. Texture trends in the Nigerian market can shift in a single season — diversified stock protects your cash flow.
